Dovobet

What is it?

An anti-psoriatic preparation which combines a corticosteroid and vitamin D analogue, available as an ointment containing 0.5mg of betamethasone as diproprionate and 50µg of calcipotriol, as hydrate, per g of ointment.

Medical Uses

Starting treatment of plaque psoriasis which is in a stable condition.

Dosage

Adults, apply to affected area twice each day for up to one month, using a maximum of 15g each day and 100g per week.

Special Care

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, avoid use on face.

Avoid Use

Serious liver or kidney disorders, disoredrs of calcium metabolism, leg ulcers, scabies, pen-oral dermatitis, untreated fungal or viral infections, tuberculous, ringworm or viral skin diseases, acne.

Known Side Effects

Itching, folliculitis (inflammation of skin follicles), rashes, skin striae (lines) and atrophy (dead skin), telangiectasia (multiple tel angiectases, which are collections of distended blood capillaries), Cushingoid changes (see Cushing's syndrome), adrenal gland suppression. Any adverse responses should be reported to the Committee on the Safety of Medicines (CSM).
