Dromadol XL
What is it?
An opiate analogue (copy) used for pain relief, available as sustained-release, white tablets in 4 different strengths containing 150mg, 200mg, 300mg or 400mg of tramadol hydrochloride, marked T150, T200, T300 or T400, respectively. Also, DROMADOL SR, film-coated, sustained-release tablets in 4 different strengths, all marked with strength and TBD; grey, contain 75mg of tramadol hydrochloride; white, contain 100mg; beige, contain 150mg; orange, contain 200mg.
Medical Uses
Moderate to severe pain.
Dosage
Adults, Dromadol XL, 150mg once each day at first, slowly increasing, if required, to daily maximum of 400mg as single dose. Dromadol SR, 75mg twice each day at first, slowly increasing, if necessary, to control pain.
Special Care
Elderly persons, depressed respiration, history of fits, head injury, raised pressure within the skull, severe liver or kidney disease, history of substance abuse or dependence.
Avoid Use
Pregnancy, breastfeeding.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
SSRIs, alcohol, carbamazepine, TCADs, MAOIs, drugs that depress the central nervous system.
Known Side Effects
Nettle rash, itching, allergic responses, effects on central nervous system, gastrointestinal upsets, profuse sweating. rarely, fainting, flushing, depression of respiration, anaphylaxis, blood changes, urine retention, voice changes, blurring of vision.
