Duovent
What is it?
A selective 132 agonist and antimuscarinic containing of I OOµg of fenoterol hydrobromide and 40µg of ipratropium bromide per dose, available as a metered dose aerosol. Also, DUO VENTAUTOHALER, containing 100µg of fenoterol hydrobromide and 40µg of ipratropium bromide per dose, available as a breath-activated, metered dose aerosol.
Medical Uses
Obstruction to airways inasthma or COPD, for bronchodilation.
Dosage
Adults, 1 or 2 puffs 3 to 4 times each day; children aged over 6 years, 1 puff 3 times each day.
Avoid Use
Children under 6 years. Also, DUOVENT UDV, containing 1.25mg fenoterol hydrobromide and 500µg of ipratropium bromide per 4ml of solution, in vials for use with nebuliser.
Medical Uses
Acute severe asthma.
Dosage
Adults and children over 14 years, 1 vial nebulized immediately. Repeat under supervision. Maximum of 4 vials in 24 hours.
Avoid Use
Children under 14 years.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, severe heart and circulatory disorders, recent heart attack, hyperthyroidism, hypertension, glaucoma, enlarged prostate gland.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Sympathomimetics, β-blockers, anticholinergics, corticosteroids, anaesthetics, xanthines, antidepressants, diuretics, digoxin.
Known Side Effects
Headache, dry mouth, nausea, dizziness, heart arrhythmias, trembling, raised heart beat rate, low blood calcium levels, nervousness.
