Dyazide
What is it?
A potassium-sparing thiazide diuretic, containing 50mg of triamterene and 25mg of hydrochlorothiazide (or co-triamterzide) in scored, peach-coloured tablets coded SKF E93.
Medical Uses
Oedema, mild to moderate high blood pressure.
Dosage
Adults, for oedema, 1 tablet twice each day after meals, reducing to 1 tablet once daily or 2 tablets every second day. The maximum daily dose is 4 tablets. High blood pressure, starting dose, ltablet taken after breakfast each day.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, diabetes, acidosis, gout, pancreatitis, liver or kidney disease.
Avoid Use
Children, Addison's disease, hypercalcaemia, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe or progressive kidney failure, liver disease which is deteriorating.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Potassium supplements, potassium-sparing diuretics, lithium, digoxin, NSAIDs, ACE inhibitors, antihypertensives.
Known Side Effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, headache, dry mouth, weakness, cramps, rash, hypercalcaemia, hyperglycaemia, low blood pressure. Rarely, blood changes, sensitivity to light, reversible kidney failure, SLE.
