Dytide

What is it?

A potassium-sparing thyazide diuretic comprising 50mg triamterene and 25mg benzthiazide in capsules (clear/maroon) marked SKF.

Medical Uses

Oedema.

Dosage

2 after breakfast and 1 after lunch to begin with, then 1 or 2 on alternate days for maintenance. Special cure: liver or kidney disease, gout, elderly, pregnancy, lactation, diabetes.

Avoid Use

Severe kidney failure or progressive liver or kidney disease, Addison's disease, hypercalcaemia, diabetic ketoacidosis (acute side effects of uncontrolled diabetes mellitus with electrolyte imbalance, very high blood glucose and acidosis).

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Potassium supplements, potassium-sparing diuretics, indomethasin, ACE inhibitors, antihypertensives, digitalis, lithium.

Known Side Effects

Weakness, headache, nausea, cramps, diarrhoea, rash, dry mouth, blood dyscrasias (abnormal blood or bone marrow conditions, e. g. leukaemia), metabolic disturbances.
