Emeside

What is it?

An antieonvulsant preparation which is a succinimide, produced as capsules and as a flavoured syrup. Orange capsules contain 250mg ethosuximide and EMESIDE SYRUP contains 250mg per 5ml.

Medical Uses

Absence (or petit mal) seizures associated with epilepsy.

Dosage

Adults and children over 6 years, 500mg each day in first instance increasing by 25 0mg at 5 to 7-day intervals until condition is controlled. Maximum daily dose is 2g. Children under 6 years, 250mg each day in first instance adjusted every few days by small amounts until condition is controlled. Maximum daily dose is 1g.

Special Care

Pregnancy, breast-feeding; liver or kidney disease. Drug should be withdrawn gradually.

Known Side Effects

Blood changes, central nervous system effects, gastro-intestinal upset, SLE, skin rashes.
