Emflex
What is it?
An indole NSAID which is a form of indomethacin and is produced as orange/yellow capsules containing 60mg acemetacin.
Medical Uses
Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, pain and inflammation following surgery and lower back pain.
Dosage
Adults, 2 tablets daily in divided doses taken with meals, a glass of milk, or with an antacid preparation. The maximum daily dose is 3 capsules.
Special Care
Elderly patients, liver or kidney disease, congestive heart failure, septic infections, epilepsy, Parkinsonism, psychiatric illness, imbalance in fluid or electrolyte levels. Patients on long-term treatment should receive checks on liver and kidney function, blood count and eyes.
Avoid Use
Children, pregnancy, breast- feeding, certain gastrointestinal disorders, peptic ulcer, angioneurotic oedema. Also, allergy to NSAID or aspirin.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Thiazides, salicylates, lithium, anticoagulants, frusemide, probenecid, ACE inhibitors, methotrexate, β-blockers, triamterene haloperidol, quinolones.
Known Side Effects
Blood changes, dizziness, blurring of vision, headache, tinnitus (ringing in ears), gastro-intestinal upset, itching, chest pains, fluid retention.
