What is it?

A sympathomimetic preparation available in the form of eye drops containing 1% adrenaline.

Medical Uses

Glaucoma (primary open angle).

Dosage

Adults, 1 drop once or twice each day.

Avoid Use

Children, patients with narrow angle glaucoma or aphakia (absence of all or part of the lens of the eye, usually because it has been surgically removed, e. g. to treat cataracts).

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Tricyclic antidepressants, 1VIAOIs.

Known Side Effects

Headache, pain in region of eyes and redness due to increased blood flow (hyperaemia), melanosis (increases in the pigment, melanin); rarely, systemic effects.
