Erymax

What is it?

A preparation of an antibiotic macrolide, available as white and orange, enteric-coated pellets containing 250mg of erythromycin, contained in clear orange/opaque orange capsules.

Medical Uses

Infections sensitive to erythromycin, acne.

Dosage

Adults, 250mg at 6-hour intervals or 500mg every 12 hours taken before or with food. For acne, 1 tablet twice each day for 1 month, then 1 tablet daily as maintenance dose. Children, for infections, 30-50mg per kg of body weight each day in divided doses at 6-hour intervals or twice daily.

Special Care

Myasthenia gravis (a severe autoimmune disorder affecting muscles), liver disease.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Digoxin, asternizole, alfentanil, anticoagulants taken by mouth, terfenadine, cyclosporin, carbamazepine, valproate, theophylline, phenytoin, statins, ergot derivatives, hexobarbital, cisapride, bromocriptine, disopyramide, midazolam, triazolam.

Known Side Effects

Allergic reactions, gastrointestinal upset.
