Erythrocin
What is it?
A preparation of an antibiotic macrolide, available in the form of oblong, white, film-coated tablets, containing 250mg and 500mg of erythromycin (as stearate), all marked with company symbol.
Medical Uses
Infections sensitive to erythromycin, acne.
Dosage
Adults and children aged over 8 years, 1-2g each day in divided doses.
Special Care
Myasthenia gravis (a severe autoimmune disorder affecting muscles), patients with liver disease.
Avoid Use
Children under 8 years.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Digoxin, disopyramide, triazolam, pimozide, ergot derivatives, midazolam, valproate, bromocriptine, cisapride, tacrolimus, anticoagulants taken by mouth, astemizole, statins, cyclosporin, phenytoin, theophylline, terfenadine, zopiclone, carbamazepine, hexobarbital, alfentanil, quinidine.
Known Side Effects
Gastro-intestinal upset, cholestatic jaundice.
