Fasturtec
What is it?
An enzyme preparation used in cancer treatment which is a recombinant urate oxidase. It is available as a powder in vials with a solvent, for reconstitution and injection, containing either 1.5mg or 7.5mg of rasburicase.
Medical Uses
Treatment and prevention of high uric acid levels in blood in patients with blood cancers who have multiple tumours and who are at risk of rapid dissolution of tumours once chemotherapy is started.
Dosage
Children and adults, 0.2mg per kg of body weight as an intravenous infusion given over 30 minutes once each day. To be given before and during chemotherapy for a maximum period of 5 days to 1 week.
Special Care
Previous skin allergies; patient should be monitored for allergic reactions during treatment.
Avoid Use
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, metabolic disorders which cause haemolytic anaemia, deficiency in enzyme G6PD.
Known Side Effects
Fever, skin rash, gastrointestinal upset. Any adverse side effects should be reported to the Committee on the Safety of Medicines (CSM).
