Fenbid Spansule

What is it?

An NSAID which is a propionic acid produced in the form of sustained-release capsules. Maroon/ pink capsules contain off-white pellets comprising 300mg ibuprofen.

Medical Uses

Pain and arthritic conditions including ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and other disorders of the skeleton and joints.

Dosage

2 capsules twice each day at first increasing to 3 capsules twice daily if required. The maintenance dose is in the order of 1 or 2 capsules twice each day.

Special Care

Pregnancy, breast-feeding, elderly, asthma, disease of the gastrointestinal tract, heart, liver or kidney disorders. Patients taking the drug long-term require careful monitoring.

Avoid Use

Children, patients with known allergy to aspirin or other anti-inflammatory drugs, stomach ulcer.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Thiazide diuretics, quinolones, anticoagulant drugs.

Known Side Effects

Rash, gastro-intestinal upset and bleeding, thrombocytopenia (abnormal decline in blood platelets). If a patient contracts aseptic meningitis, it must be reported to the Committee on the Safety of Medicines (CSM).
