Fenopron
What is it?
An NSAID and propionic acid, available in the form of tablets of 2 different strengths. Oval-shaped, orange tablets, coded DISTA 4019, contain 300mg of fenoprofen, as calcium salt; orange tablets coded DISTA 4021, contain 600mg of fenoprofen as calcium salt.
Medical Uses
Pain and arthritic conditions including ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
Dosage
300-600mng 3 to 4 times dailywith a maximum daily dose of 3g.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breast-feeding, elderly, liver or kidney disease, heart failure, asthma, a history of disorders involving gastro-intestinal bleeding. Patients taking the drug long-term should receive careful monitoring.
Avoid Use
Children, patients with ulcers, known allergy to aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs, serious kidney disorders.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Aspirin, quinolones, hypoglycaemics, loop diuretics, anticoagulants, hydantoins, phenobarbitone, sulphonylureas.
