Ferrograd Folic

What is it?

A haematinic preparation available as film-coated, sustained- release, two-layered yellow/red tablets containing 325mg of dried ferrous sulphate (equal to 105mg of iron) and 350µg of folic acid, all marked with symbol.

Medical Uses

Anaemia arising during pregnancy.

Dosage

Women, 1 tablet each day taken before a meal.

Special Care

Conditions in which passage of substances through gut is delayed.

Avoid Use

Obstruction of intestine, megaloblastic anaemia (form of anaemia characterised by abnormally enlarged, precursor red blood cells) due to deficiency of vitamin Biz, diverticular disease, patients receiving repeated blood transfusions, haemosiderosis, haemochromatosis (conditions characterised by abnormal deposition of iron in body tissues).

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Antibiotics - tetracyclines, chloramphenicol, quinolones, penicillamine, trientene, other iron preparations not taken orally, metallic salts, antacids.

Known Side Effects

Dark stools, gastrointestinal disturbances.
