Ferrograd
What is it?
A haematinic preparation available as sustained-release, red, film-coated capsules containing 325mg of dried ferrous sulphate (equal to 105mg of iron).
Medical Uses
Anaemia caused by iron deficiency.
Dosage
Adults, 1 capsule each day taken before a meal.
Special Care
Conditions in which tran sit of food through gut is delayed.
Avoid Use
Children, obstruction of intestine, diverticular disease, patients receiving numerous blood transfusions, haemosiderosis (increased deposits of iron in various tissues), haemochromatosis (rare metabolic disorder in which iron is deposited at excessive levels throughout the body).
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Antibiotics - tetracyclines, chloramphenicol, quinolones, penicillamine, trientene, other iron preparations not taken orally, metallic salts, antacids.
Known Side Effects
Dark stools, gastrointestinal disturbances.
