Fleet Phospho-Soda

What is it?

An osmotic preparation available as a solution to be added to water and drunk, containing 24.4g of sodium acid phosphate and 10.8g of sodium phosphate, per 45ml.

Medical Uses

Cleansing of bowel before investigative procedures, surgery etc eg colonoscopy, radiological treatments.

Dosage

Adults, add 45ml to half a glass of water and drink as directed, according to time of procedure (lam and 7pm on day before, if procedure is to be performed on following morning, or 7 pm the evening before and lam on same morning, if procedure is to take place in the afternoon). In all cases, drink a glass of water immediately after swallowing the mixture.

Special Care

Those requiring restricted sodium intake, heart disease, kidney disorders, patients with colostomy.

Avoid Use

Abdominal pain, nausea vomiting, bowel or gastrointestinal obstruction, inflammatory bowel disorders, megacolon (abnormally and greatly enlarged colon), kidney failure, congestive heart failure, ileus (any obstruction of intestine).

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Oral contraceptives, calcium antagonists, lithium, antibiotics, diuretics, anticoagulant and antidiabetic drugs.
