Flixonase

What is it?

A corticosteroid nasal spray delivering 50µg fluticasone propionate per metered dose. Also, FLIXONASE NASULES, single dose nasal drops delivering 400µg of fluticasone proprionate.

Medical Uses

Flixonase, prevention and treatment of allergic rhinitis (hay fever), nasal congestion. Flixonase nasules, nasal polyps with nasal obstruction.

Dosage

Adults, Flixonase, 2 sprays into each nostril in the morning, with a maximum of 4 sprays into both nostrils daily. Maintenance should be lowest effective dose, usually 1 spray in each nostril once each day. Flixonase nasules, insert contents of 1 nasule into affected nostril once or twice each day; use minimum dose that is effective and if no improvement after 4 to 6 weeks, cease use. Children, Flixonase only, aged 4 to 11 years, 1 spray (maximum of 2) into each nos tril daily. Aged 12 and over, as adult.

Special Care

Pregnancy, breast-feeding, nasal infections should be treatedfirst, transferring from other (sys temic) steroid drugs taken orally. Pro longed use with higher doses may leadto systemic steroid effects or adrenalgland suppression - monitor and usefor as short a time as possible and takeinto account other steroid sources.

Avoid Use

Children under 4 years of age.

Known Side Effects

Nosebleeds (sometimes severe), irritation of nose, interference with sense of taste and smell, allergic reactions. Rarely, perforation of nasal septum, anaphylaxis.
