Fluorigard

What is it?

A fluoride supplement available as grape flavoured tablets containing 1.1mg of sodium fluoride and orange flavoured tablets containing 2.2mg of sodium fluoride.

Medical Uses

Protectioii of children's teeth against decay.

Dosage

Children aged 3 to 6 years, 0.5mg each day; aged 6 years and over, 1 mg each day. If fluoride content of water supply is between 0.3 to 0.7 ppm (parts per million), children aged 3 to 6 years should receive 0.25mg daily and those aged over 6 years, 0.5mg.

Special Care

Tablets should be chewed and sucked rather than swallowed directly and taken at a different time of day to tooth brushing.

Avoid Use

Children under 3 years; if fluoride content of drinking water exceeds 0.7ppm.

Known Side Effects

Discolouration (fluorosis) of teeth if over-exposure to fluoride.
