Fluvirin
What is it?
A preparation of inactivated influenzaviruses comprising 15µg per 0.5ml of a variety of different strains B/ Hong Kong/330/2001-like strain, New Caledonia/20/99(H1N1)-like strain and A. Moscow/10/99 (H3N2)like strain. Available in pre-prepared syringes for injection.
Medical Uses
Immunization against influenza.
Dosage
Adults, 0.5ml by intramuscular or deep subcutaneous injection; children, aged 6 months to 3 years, 0.25ml or 0.5ml; aged over 3 years, 0.5ml if receiving vaccination for first time. Do not give second dose until at least one month has elapsed.
Special Care
Pregnancy.
Avoid Use
Children under 3 years of age, patients with allergy to chicken or egg protein (as vaccines are cultivated on these).
Known Side Effects
Feverishness, headache, malaise, soreness at injection site, alluncommon and transient.
