Fortum

What is it?

A cephalosporin antibiotic preparation produced in the form of powder in vials for reconstitution and injection, containing 250mg 500mg, 1g, 2g or 3g of ceftazidime (as pentahydrate).

Medical Uses

Urinary and gastro-intestinal tract infections, infections of ear, nose and throat and respiratory system, joint, bone, soft tissue and skin infections, meningitis, septicaemia and infections in patients who are immunocompromised.

Dosage

Adults and children accordingto manufacturer's specifications.

Special Care

Pregnancy, kidney disease, sensitivity to Beta lactam.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Loop diuretics, chloramphenicol, aminoglycosides.

Known Side Effects

Gastrointestinal upset, headache, tingling/numbness/'pins and needles' in fingers and toes, dizziness, vaginitis, infections caused by candida (thrush), pain at injection site, blood changes involving white blood cells, candidiasis, allergic reactions, positive Coombs test, rise in level of blood urea and liver enzymes.
