Frusene
What is it?
A potassium-sparing and loop diuretic produced in the form of scored yellow tablets containing 40mg frusemide and 50mg triamterene.
Medical Uses
Oedema accompanying liver or heart disease, congestive heart failure.
Dosage
Adults, half to 2 tablets each day with a daily maximum of 6 (in divided doses).
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, gout, enlarged prostate gland, difficulty in urination, acidosis, liver or kidney disease, diabetes.
Avoid Use
Children, patients in precoma resulting from liver cirrhosis, hyperkalaemia (raised blood potassium levels), progressive kidney failure.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Other potassium- sparing diuretics and potassium supplements, aminoglycosides, cardiac glycosides, neuromuscular blocking drugs, lithium, theophylline, NSAIDs, cephalosporins.
Known Side Effects
Rash, gastro-intestinal up set, gout, malaise, blood changes.
