Fucidin

What is it?

an antibacterial agent being a salt of fusidic acid, available as film-coated, oval, white tablets containing 250mg of sodium fusidate, all marked 121 and with lion logo. Also, FUCIDIN SUSPENSION, available as a solution containing 250mg of fusidic acid per 5ml. Also, FUCIDIN I. Y. INFUSION, available as a dry powder in vials (with citrate/phosphate buffer in separate vials), for reconstitution and injection, containing 500mg of sodium fusidate.

Medical Uses

Infections caused by staphylococcus bacteria.

Dosage

Adults, tablets, 500mg 3 times each day; suspension, 15ml, 3 times each day; infusion, as directed by physician. Children, use suspension, aged under 12months, 1ml per kg of body weight in 3 divided doses; aged Ito 5 years, 5ml; aged 5 to 12 years, 10ml. Both age groups to be given doses 3 times each day.

Special Care

Perform tests on liver function.

Known Side Effects

Gastrointestinal disturbance, jaundice which is reversible.
