Fybozest

What is it?

A preparation comprising soluble fibre, available as orange-flavoured granules for adding to water, containing ispaghula husk.

Medical Uses

To reduce slight to moderately raised levels of blood cholesterol and to help maintain lower levels, when hypercholesterolaemia exists as a primary condition.

Dosage

Adults, for rapid treatment, 11/2 measures in 150ml of water in the morning and at night for 2 to 3 months, then reverting to normal dose which is 1 measure in 150ml of water, taken at night and in the morning.

Special Care

Diabetes.

Avoid Use

Children, obstructed intestine, colon that is not functioning properly due to muscle weakness, impaction of faeces, phenylketonuria (a genetic metabolic disorder that leads to a build up of phenylalanine in the blood; tested for at birth using the Guthrie test).

Known Side Effects

Gastrointestinal effects, abdominal extension and bloating.
