Galenphol
What is it?
An antitussive (cough suppressant) preparation which is an opiate, available as a sugar-free, aniseed flavoured liquid containing 5mg of pholcodine per 5ml. Also, GALENPHOL LINCTUS STRONG, a sugar-free, aniseed flavoured liquid containing 10mg of pholcodine per 5ml. Also, GALENPHOL LINCTUS PAEDIATRIC, a sugar-free, aniseed flavoured liquid containing 2mg of pholcidine per 5ml.
Medical Uses
Unproductive cough ie one that does not eject mucus.
Dosage
Adults, Galenphol, 5 to 10ml, 3to 4 times each day; Galenphol linctus strong, 5ml 3 to 4 times each day. Children, Galenphol, aged 5 to 12 years, 2.5 to 5ml3 to 4 times each day; Galenphol linctus paediatric, aged 1to 5 years, 5ml 3 times each day; aged 6 to 12 years, 5 to 10ml 3 times each day.
Special Care
Opiate derivative - danger of abuse, asthma.
Avoid Use
Children under 1 year (all preparations), children under 5 years - except paediatric formulation, productive cough, liver disease.
