Gastrobid Continus
What is it?
An antidopaminergic prepa ration available as white, sustained-release tablets containing 15mg metoclopramide hydrochloride marked with strength and NAPP.
Medical Uses
Hiatus hernia, reflux oesophagitis (a baekflow of acid stomach juice) duodenitis and gastritis (inflammation of duodenum and stomach), dyspepsia. Also, nausea and vomiting including that which may result from chemotherapy for cancer.
Dosage
Adults over 20 years of age, 1 tablet twice each day.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breast-feeding, kidney disease.
Avoid Use
Children and young adults under 20 years, recent surgery of gastrointestinal tract, epilepsy, phaeochrornocytoma (tumour of the adrenal glands).
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Anticholinergic drugs, MAOIs.
Known Side Effects
Elevated prolactin (a pituitary gland hormone that stimulates the production of breast milk) levels in blood, extrapyramidal responses (concerned with reflex muscle movements of a stereotyped nature, e. g. knee jerk).
