Gastrocote
What is it?
A preparation which is an antacid and reflux suppressant available as white tablets containing 200mg of alginic acid, 80mg of dried aluminium hydroxide gel, 40mg of magnesium trisilieate and 70mg of sodium bicarbonate, all coded GASTROCOTE. Also, GASTROCOTE LIQUID, a suspension containing 220mg of sodium alginate, 80mg of dried aluminium hydroxide, 40mg of magnesium trisilieate and 70mg of sodium bicarbonate per 5ml.
Medical Uses
Hiatus hernia, heartburn, acid indigestion, reflux oesophagitis.
Dosage
Adults and children aged over 6 years, 1 or 2 tablets to be chewed rather than swallowed, or 5 to 15ml of suspension, taken 4 times each day, following each main meal and at bedtime.
