Gaviscon Advance
What is it?
A reflux suppressant preparation available as an aniseed or peppermint flavoured liquid containing 1000mg of sodium alginate and 200mg of sodium bicarbonate per 10ml. Also, GAVISCON TABLETS, sugar and gluten-free, lemon or mint flavoured, white tablets containing 500mg of alginic acid, 25mg of magnesium trisilieate, 100mg of dried aluminium hydroxide gel and 170mg of sodium bicarbonate, marked on both sides with sword symbol and name. Also, GAVISCON LIQUID, available as a mint or aniseed flavoured, sugar-free liquid containing 500mg of sodium alginate, 267mg of sodium bicarbonate and 160mg of calcium carbonate per 10mLA1so, GAVISCON INFANT FORMULA, available as a powder containing 225mg of sodium alginate and 87.5mg of magnesium alginate per dose, when reconstituted. Used fog: preparations other than infant formula, hiatus hernia, acid indigestion due to reflux, reflux oesophagitis, heartburn. Infant formula, regurgitation and stomach reflux.
Dosage
Adults, Gaviscon Advance, 5 to 10ml taken 4 times each day, after main meals and at bedtime; Gaviscon tablets, Gaviscon liquid, for 2 tablets or 10 to 20ml 4 times each day after main meals and at bedtime. Children, should take half adult doses in same way. Gaviscon Infant formula, breastfed babies, weighing under 4.5kg, 1 dose; weighing over 4.5kg, 2 doses. In both cases, mix powder with 5ml of cooled boiled water and then add another 15ml of cooled boiled water and give after feeding. Bottle- fed babies weighing less than 4.5kg, add 1 dose to 115ml of formula milk; weighing over 4.5kg, add 2 doses to 225ml of formula milk. Older infants/ young children, mix 2 doses with 15ml of water and give after each main meal.
