Gentisone HC

What is it?

A compound antibiotic and corticosteroid in the form of eardrops containing 0.3% gentamicin (as sulphate) and 1% hydrocortisone acetate.

Medical Uses

External ear infections, infection in mastoid cavities following surgery.

Dosage

Adults and children, 2 to 4 drops placed in ear 3 or 4 times each day and at bedtime. As an alternative, wicks dipped in the solution may be placed in the ear to deliver the dose.

Special Care

Pregnancy, limit use in young children.

Avoid Use

Ruptured ear drum.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Other kidney toxic or ototoxic drugs (toxic effects on 8th cranial nerve or organs of hearing and balance).

Known Side Effects

Superinfection (secondary infection).
