Hepatyrix
What is it?
A preparation of inactivated virus and inactivated surface antigen, comprising 1440 Elisa units per ml of hepatitis A virus HM 175 strain adsorbed onto aluminium hydroxide and 25µg per ml of Vi polysaccharide antigen of Salmonella typhi. Available as a suspension in prepared syringes for injection.
Medical Uses
Immunisation against hepatitis A and typhoid.
Dosage
Adults and children aged over 15 years, primary dose, 1ml by intramuscular injection into the shoulder. Booster for hepatitis A, 1ml delivered in same way after 6 to 12 months; booster for typhoid, use single dose of Vi polysaccharide vaccine every 3 years if risk remains current.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding; patients with lowered immunity may need further doses.
Avoid Use
Children under 15 years, patients with severe fever.
