What is it?

A preparation of inactivated surface antigen consisting of polysaccharide from the capsule of H. influenzae type B joined to diphtheria protein. Available as 10µg per 0.5ml, in prepared, single dose vials.

Medical Uses

Immunization against invasive infections such as meningitis, epiglottitis and other diseases caused by H. influenzae type B.

Dosage

Children only, aged 2 months to 1 year, 3 intramuscular injections of 0.5ml at 4 week intervals, with booster, usually in child's second year. Aged 13 months to 5 years, 1 booster intramiiscular dose of 0.5ml.

Special Care

Same vaccine must be used throughout course of immunization.

Avoid Use

Children with acute feverish illness, adults.

Known Side Effects

Possible skin reaction (reddening) at injection site, prolonged crying, fever, irritability, headache, appetite loss, malaise, gastrointestinal upset, allergic responses.
