Hiprex
What is it?
An antibacterial preparation available as oblong, scored, white tablets marked 3M and HX, containing lg of hexamine hippurate.
Medical Uses
Infections of urinary tract.
Dosage
Adults and children over 12 years, lg twice each day, patients with catheters, lg 3 times each day. Children aged 6 to 12 years, half adult dose.
Avoid Use
Patients who are severely dehydrated, liver disease, severe kidney failure or disorder of kidney parenchyma, metabolic acidosis.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Acetazolamide, alkalising drugs or sulfonamides.
Known Side Effects
Rash, irritation of bladder, gastrointestinal upset.
