Hypurin Bovine Lente

What is it?

A preparation of long-acting insulin, beef insulin zinc mixed suspension which is highly purified. Available as 100w per ml in vials for injection.

Medical Uses

Diabetes.

Dosage

Usually self-administered by subcutaneous injection according to individual patient requirements. Effects last for about 30 hours.

Special Care

Kidney or liver disease, patients transferring from animal insulins (should be warned that early signs of hypoglycaemia may not be so apparent). Infections, illnesses, stress, emotional upset, pregnancy, change in insulin source, type etc; in all these cases, dose adjustments may be needed.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Oral contraceptives, MAOIs, alcohol, β-blockers, corticotrophin, diuretics, corticosteroids.

Known Side Effects

Lipodystrophy (changes involving fat deposition) at injection site.
