Hypurin Bovine Neutral
What is it?
A preparation of short-acting insulin, beef neutral insulin which is highly purified. Available as 100w per ml in vials or cartridges for use with autopen device. Used for : diabetes.
Dosage
Usually self-administered by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection, according to individual patient requirements; can Also, be injected intravenously for a very rapid effect.
Special Care
Kidney or liver disease, patients transferring from animal insulins (should be warned that early signs of hypoglycaemia may not be so apparent). Infections, illnesses, stress, emotional upset, pregnancy, change in insulin source, type etc; in all these cases, dose adjustments may be needed.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Oral contraceptives, MAOIs, alcohol, β-blockers, corticotrophin, diuretics, corticosteroids.
Known Side Effects
Lipodystrophy (changes involving fat deposition) at injection site.
