Hypurin Porcine 30/70
What is it?
A combined preparation of biphasic isophane insulin, pork insulin as 30% neutral and 70% isophane insulin which is highly purified. Available as 100iu per ml in vials or cartridges for use with an autopen device.
Medical Uses
Diabetes.
Dosage
Usually self-administered by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection according to individual patient requirements. Effects last for about 24 hours.
Special Care
Kidney or liver disease, patients transferring from animal insulins (should be warned that early signs of hypoglycaemia may not be so apparent). Infections, illnesses, stress, emotional upset, pregnancy, change in insulin source, type etc; in all these cases, dose adjustments may be needed.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Oral contraceptives, MAOIs, alcohol, β-blockers, corticotrophin, diuretics, corticosteroids.
Known Side Effects
Lipodystrophy (changes involving fat deposition) at injection site.
