Ikorel
What is it?
An anti-anginal preparation which is a potassium channel activator available as white, scored tablets in two strengths containing 10mg of nicorandil, marked IK 10 or 20mg of nicorandil, marked IK20.
Medical Uses
Angina.
Dosage
10mg twice each day to start, then adjust dose depending upon response. For maintenance, 10 to 20mg twice each day to a maximum of 30mg twice daily. For those prone to headaches, 5mg twice each day to begin with.
Avoid Use
Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, pulmonary oedema, cardiogenic shock, low blood pressure, hypovolaemia (very low circulating blood volume), left ventricular failure with low filling pressure.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Slidenafil, TCADs, hypotensive drugs.
Known Side Effects
Dizziness, headache, vomiting, asthenia (weakness), vasodilatation, low blood pressure or tachycardia with high doses. Rarely, persistent mouth ulcers.
