What is it?

A preparation of diptheria, tetanus and whooping cough vaccine (pertussis) - DTPa vaccine, comprising triple antigen adsorbed onto aluminium salts. The preparation contains a minimum of 30iu of diptheria toxoid, a minimum of 40iu of tetanus toxoid, acellar whooping cough vaccine comprising 25µg of pertussis toxoid, 25µg of filamentous haemagluttin and 8µg of pertactin for every 0.5ml of suspension. Available as suspension in pre-prepared syringes. .

Medical Uses

As booster for children who have previously received 3 doses (ie full course) of DTPW or DTPa vaccine.

Special Care

Epilepsy, epilepsy in family member, history of fits during fever.

Avoid Use

If child has reacted badly after previously receiving the vaccine, acute fever, incidence of encephalopathy (brain fever) within 1 week of previous vaccination with preparation containing pertussis.

Known Side Effects

Restlessness, appetite loss, headache, continuous crying, malaise, drowsiness, gastrointestinal upset, allergic symptoms. Any adverse side effects should be reported to the Committee on the Safety of Medicines (CSM).
