Influvac
What is it?
A preparation of inactivated surface antigen obtained from 3 strains of influenza virus. It is produced in pre-prepared syringes containing 15µg of each of the following strains of influenza virus per 0.5ml suspension: A/New Caledonia/20/ 99(H1N1)-like strain; B/Hong Kong/ 330/2001-like strain; A/Moscow/10/ 99(H3N2)-like strain.
Dosage
Adults, 0.5ml; children, aged 6 months to 3 years, 0.25ml or 0.5ml; aged over 3 years, 0.5ml. If child has not been previously vaccinated or exposed, a second dose is given after a minimum period of l month. All doses given by deep subcutaneous or intramuscular injection.
Avoid Use
Children under 6 months, patients with allergy to poultry, eggs or feathers, (chick embryos used to culture virus strains). Patients with feverish conditions.
Known Side Effects
Tiredness, headache, feverishness, pain at injection site. Rarely, neurological disturbances.
