Isordil
What is it?
An antianginal, nitrate preparation available as white, scored tablets in two different strengths containing 10mg or 30mg of isosorbide dinitrate, each marked with strength and name. Also, ISORDIL SUBLINGUAL, available as pink tablets containing 5mg of isosorbide dinitrate. Usedfor: acute congestive heart failure, additional treatment in chronic congestive heart failure, post-heart attack, prevention of angina (tablets), acute attack of pain (lsordil Sublingual).
Dosage
Adults, heart failure, 5 to 15mg dissolved under tongue using sublingual tablets, every 2 to 3 hours at first, followed by 10 to 60mg of oral tablets every 4 hours. Prevention of angina, tablets, 40 to 120mg each day in divided doses; Acute attack, Isordil Sublingual, 1 or 2 tablets dissolved under tongue, as required.
Special Care
Heart function should be monitored.
Avoid Use
Children.
Known Side Effects
Flushes, dizziness, headaches; may increase ischaemia (decrease in blood supply/oxygen) to heart muscle.
