What is it?

An antipsychotic and group I phenothiazine, chlorpromazine hydrochloride available as film-coated, white tablets in 4 different strengths containing 10mg, 25mg, 50mg or 100mg of chlorpromazine hydrochloride, marked with LG and strength. Also, LARGACTIL SYRUP, containing 25mg of chlorpromazine hydrochloride per 5ml. Also, LARGACTIL FORTE SUSPENSION, containing chlorpromazine carbonate equivalent to 100mg chlorpromazine hydrochloride per 5ml and LARGACTIL INJECTION, containing 25mg of chlorpromazine hydrochloride per ml in 2ml ampoules.

Medical Uses

Disturbances of the CNS that require sedation, intractable hiccups, induction of hypothermia, mood disorders, mania, hypomania, schizophrenia, nausea and vomiting in terminally ill patients, affective disorders.

Dosage

Adults, tablets, syrup, suspension, 25mg 3 times per day, increasing by 25mg per day, if required to a maximum daily dose of 1g. Maintenance dose 75-300mg daily. Injection: 25 to 50mg by deep intramuscular injection in a single dose. Can be repeated after 6 to 8 hours; to be followed by oral therapy as soon as possible.

Elderly, pregnancy, breastfeeding, children - use in severe cases only - consult manufacturer's instructions.

Avoid Use

Heart failure, epilepsy, Parkinsonism, liver or kidney disorder, myasthenia gravis (severe auto- immune disorder), underactive thyroid gland, narrow angle glaucoma, phaeochromocytoma (tumour of adrenal gland), enlarged prostate gland.
