Lasilactone
What is it?
A loop and potassium-sparing diuretic consisting of 20mg of frusemide and 50mg of spironolactone as blue/white capsules.
Medical Uses
Fluid retention that has not responded to other therapy, high blood pressure associated with secondary hyperaldosteronism (a condition in which excess aldosterone, a hormone secreted by the adrenal glands that regulates potassium and sodium levels, is released as a result of some other disorder in the body).
Dosage
Adults, 1 to 4 tablets each day.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, liver or kidney disease, impaired urination, enlarged prostate gland, gout. Not to be used long-term for young patients.
Avoid Use
Children, serious or worsening kidney failure, pre-coma caused by liver cirrhosis, high blood potassium levels, Addison's disease.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Potassium supplements, potassium-sparing diuretics, antihypertensives, lithium, digitalis, ACE inhibitors, NSAIDs, cephalosporins, aminoglycosides.
Known Side Effects
Rash, gout, blood changes, gynaecomastia (abnormal enlargement of breasts in males), gastrointestinal upsets.
