Lasoride
What is it?
A loop and potassium-sparing diuretic available as yellow tablets containing 40mg of frusemide and 5mg of amiloride hydrochloride.
Medical Uses
Rapid diuretic treatment and conservation of potassium.
Dosage
Adults, 1 to 2 tablets in the morning, adjust for elderly, according to kidney function, levels of electrolytes and individual requirements.
Special Care
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, elderly, enlarged prostate gland, impaired urination, diabetes, gout. Electrolyte and fluid levels should be checked regularly.
Avoid Use
Pre-coma caused by liver cirrhosis, serious or worsening kidney failure, Addison's disease, raised blood potassium levels, electrolyte imbalance.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
NSAIDs, digitalis, antidiabetic drugs, antihypertensives, lithium, ototoxic or nephrotoxic antibiotics, potassium supplements, potassium-sparing diuretics (do not use with Lasoride), certain (non-depolarising), muscle relaxants.
Known Side Effects
Gastro-intestinal upset, itching, blood changes (stop drug), malaise, reduced alertness, calcium loss. In rare cases, minor mental disturbances, pancreatitis, altered liver function tests, ototoxicity (toxic effects on 8th cranial nerve or organs of balance and hearing).
