Lederfen

What is it?

An NSAID and propionic acid available as light blue, film- coated, capsule-shaped tablets marked WY 050 containing 300mg of fenbufen and light blue film-coated tablets marked WY 051, containing 450mg of fenbufen. Also, LEDERFEN CAPSULES, available as dark blue capsules marked WY 052 containing 300mg of fenbufen.

Medical Uses

Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and acute muscle/bone disorders.

Dosage

Adults, 300mg in the morning with 600mg at night, or 450mg twice each day.

Special Care

Pregnancy, elderly patients, heart failure, kidney or liver disease, asthma or previous occurrence of asthma. Monitor those on long-term treatment.

Avoid Use

Active peptic ulcers or history of gastro-intestinal lesions, allergy induced by aspirin or anti-inflammatory drug.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Anticoagulants, salicylates, quinolones, cardiac glycosides, methotrexate, cyclosporin, drugs bound to proteins, lithium, diuretics, antihypertensives, mifepristone, corticosteroids.

Known Side Effects

Gastro-intestinal intolerance, oedema affecting fac, dizziness, angioedema (condition in which there is widespread swelling), erythema multiforme (a skin condition in which there are inflamed patches), purpura (bleeding beneath skin), Stevens- Johnson syndrome, disturbance of vision, sensitivity to light, death of patches of epidermal skin cells, inflammation of veins. In rare cases, pulmonary alveolitis (inflammation of alveoli-air sacs - of lungs), pulmonary eosinophilia (increase in number of eosinophils-white blood cells-as aresult of inflammation). If skin rash occurs, drug should be withdrawn.
