What is it?
A hormonal preparation available as white tablets containing 7501.tg of levonorgestrel.
Medical Uses
Emergency contraception following unprotected sexual intercourse.
Dosage
1 tablet to be taken as soon as possible after intercourse and within 72 hours, followed by a second tablet 12 hours (and no more than 16 hours) later. If woman vomits within 3 hours of taking either tablet, a replacement should be taken.
Special Care
Severe malabsorption conditions, severe liver disease, monthly period that is overdue, previous unprotected intercourse during current monthly cycle, more than 72 hours beforehand. If pregnancy occurs, monitor for possible ectopic pregnancy.
Possible Drug And Food Interactions
Meprobamate, chloral hydrate, rifabutin, ethosuximide, barbiturates, ritonavir, carbamazepine, chlorpromazine, griseofulvin, dichloralphenazone, pyrimidone, rifampicin, phenytoin, glutethimide, St John's Wort.
Known Side Effects
Nausea, vomiting.
