What is it?

An adsorbent preparation available as a suspension in single- dose tubes containing 50g of activated charcoal.

Medical Uses

Poisoning and drug overdose.

Dosage

Adults, 50g given by mouth or stomach tube as soon as possible after poison has been ingested; dose is repeated as necessary; children, 25 to 50g given in same way and repeated as necessary.

Special Care

Additional treatment is needed, depending upon nature of poison or drug.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Other antidotes or sickness-inducing preparations given by mouth.
