What is it?
A gonadomimetic (mimicking the effects of the sex organs) available as white tablets containing 2.5mg of tibolone, markedMK2, ORGANON and *.
Medical Uses
Endometriosis, vasomotor symptoms, symptoms of depression and lowered libido associated with the menopause or menopause caused by surgery, prevention of osteoporosis after the menopause.
Dosage
Women, endometriosis, 1 tablet each day; vasomotor symptoms, l tablet daily for a minimum of 3 months; prevention of osteoporosis, 1 tablet daily for 5 to 10 years.
Special Care
Kidney disorder or history of same, migraine, diabetes, epilepsy, high blood cholesterol levels. Menstrual bleeding may occur irregularly if started within 1 year of last period; if changing from other form of HR7; a withdrawal bleed with progestogen should be induced. Treatment to be stopped if liver disorder, cholestatic jaundice or thromboembolic disorders occur.
Avoid Use
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, hormone-dependent tumours, severe liver disease, cardio- or cerebrovascular disorders.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Hydantoins, carbamazepine, barbiturates, anticoagulants, rifampicin.
Known Side Effects
Headache, migraine, dizziness, vaginal bleeding, depression, pain in muscles and bones, bodyweight changes, disturbed vision, irritated skin, seborrhoeic dermatitis (eczema associated with oil-sebumsecreting glands), abnormal liver function, gastro-intestinal upset, hair growth, fluid retention.
