Locoid

What is it?

A strong steroid preparation, available as a cream and ointment containing 0.1% hydrocortisone 17-butyrate. Also, LOCOID CRELO, an emulsion containing 0.15% hydrocortisone 17-butyrate. Also, LOCOID LIPOCREAM, 0.1% hydrocortisone 17-butyrate in a base containing 70% oil. Also, LOCOID SCALP LOTION, 0.1% hydrocortisone 17- butyrate in an alcoholic solution. Also, LOCOID C, a strong steroid 0.1% hydrocortisone 17-butyrate with an antifungal and antibacterial, 3% chlorquinaldol, available as cream and ointment.

Medical Uses

Locoid and Locoid Crelo, eczema, psoriasis, skin disorders. Locoid Lipocream, skin disorders responsive to steroids. Locoid scalp lotion, seborrhoea affecting the scalp. Locoid C, as for locoid but when infection is Also, present

Dosage

Locoid and Locoid Crelo, Locoid Lipocream, apply to affected area 2 to 3 times each day; Locoid Scalp Lotion, apply to scalp twice each day; Locoid C, apply 2 to 4 times each day.

Special Care

Should not be used on face or on children for more than 5 days. Should be stopped gradually.

Avoid Use

Prolonged or extensive use especially pregnant women or continual use as a preventative. Should not be used to treat acne, leg ulcers, scabies, pen-oral dermatitis, tuberculous skin conditions, skin disorders caused by viruses, ringworm, any untreated bacterial or fungal skin infections.

Known Side Effects

Thinning of skin, adrenal gland suppression, hair growth, Cushingoid type symptoms (as in Cushing's syndrome).
