Loron

What is it?

A biphosphonate acting on bone metabolism available as film- coated, oblong, scored white tablets containing 520mg of disodium clodronate marked BM E9. Also, LORON CAPSULES, containing 400mg of sodium clodronate, in white capsules marked BM B7.

Medical Uses

Hypercalcaemia, lesions in the bone, pain from secondary bone cancer. Maintenance treatment after therapy given intravenously.

Dosage

Adults, tablets, 2 to 4 tablets each day in 1 or 2 divided doses 1 hour before or after food; capsules, 4 to 8 capsules each day in 1 or 2 divided doses 1 hour before or after food.

Special Care

Kidney failure, serum calcium and phosphate to be monitored and Also, kidney function.

Avoid Use

Children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, serious kidney failure, inflammation of the intestines.

Possible Drug and Food Interactions

Antacids, mineral supplements, other biphosphonates.

Known Side Effects

Gastro-intestinal upset, kidney disorders, short-lived protein in urine, rises in certain enzymes and parathyroid hormone - all reversible. Rarely, skin reactions, low blood calcium levels.
