What is it?
A gonadotrophin (acting on the sex organs) available as a powder in vials for reconstitution and injection, with solvent, containing 75iu of lutropin alfa.
Medical Uses
Female infertility - in combination with follicle stimulating hormone in women with severe deficiency in luteinising hormone and follicle stimulating hormone, to bring about development of ovarian follicles.
Dosage
Women, 75iu each day by subcutaneous injection along with 75 to 150iu of follicle stimulating hormone. Also, consult manufacturer's instructions.
Special Care
Other hormonal disorders should be treated before therapy be gins. Size of ovaries and oestrogen levels require monitoring during course of treatment in order not to overstimulate.
Avoid Use
Tumours or cancers of reproductive organs, breast, pituitary gland or hypothalamus, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, fibroids or other abnormalities in uterus making pregnancy unlikely to occur, primary failure of ovaries, some ovarian cysts or other ovarian abnormalities.
Known Side Effects
Symptoms of ovarian over- stimulation, abdominal/pelvic pains, nausea, cysts on ovaries, pains in breasts, sleepiness, headaches, reactions at injection site. all adverse side effects should be reported to the Committee on the Safety of Medicines (CSM).
