Maalox
What is it?
An antacid preparation available as a suspension containing 220mg of dried aluminium hydroxide gel and 195mg of magnesium hydroxide (co-magaldrox 195/220) per 5ml. Also, MAALOX PLUS SUSPENSION, antacid and deflatulent preparation containing 220mg of dried aluminium hydroxide gel, 195mg of magnesium hydroxide and 25mg of activated dimethicone per 5ml. Also, MAALOX TC SUSPENSION, containing 600mg of dried aluminium hydroxide gel and 300mg of magnesium hydroxide (co-magaldrox 300/600) per 5ml.
Medical Uses
Maalox and Maalox Plus, acid indigestion, heartburn, gastritis, over- secretion of stomach acid, wind. Maalox TC, treatment of duodenal ulcer and prevention of recurrence, stomach ulcer, heartburn, over-secretion of stomach acid.
Dosage
Adults, Maalox and Maalox Plus, 5 to 10ml taken 20 minutes to 1 hour after a meal with a further dose at bedtime. Maalox TC, treatment of duodenal ulcer, 15ml 4 times each day taken 1 hour after meals and at bedtime; prevention, 15ml taken in morning after breakfast and a further 15ml dose in the evening. Over-secretion of stomach acid, 5 to 10ml 4 times each day, taken 20 minutes to 1 hour after meals and at bedtime.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Tetracyclines.
