What is it?
A eoumarin anticoagulant preparation available as scored tablets of different strengths all containing warfarin sodium; white, 0.5mg tablets marked MOS; brown 1mg tablets marked ML; blue 3mg tablets markedM3 and pink 5mg tablets markedM5.
Medical Uses
Thromboembolic states.
Dosage
Adults, 10mg each day adjusted according to results of tests.
Special Care
Elderly, patients who are seriously ill, have kidney disease or disorder, high blood pressure, vitamin K deficiency, weight changes.
Avoid Use
Pregnancy, within 24 hours of labour or surgery, reduced liver or kidney function, haemorrhage or bleeding disorders.
Possible Drug and Food Interactions
Antibiotics, cimetidine, corticosteroids, tamoxifen, hypoglycaemics taken orally, imidazole antifungal drugs, phenformin, sulfonamides, NSAIDs, quinidine, drugs having an effect on liver enzymes.
Known Side Effects
Fall in haematoerit, skin rash, diarrhoea, baldness.
